Fighter Beasts Chapter 7, Part 1, Rilium The Marvel Unicorn
Rilium soared through the shimmering skyline of Celestria, the wind whipping through his mane as he tightened his grip on the handlebars of the sleek, silver pterodactyl like vehicle beneath him. The metallic beast responded to every shift of his body, its wings glinting in the neon lights below. His mind raced as fast as the vehicle, but there was something darker lurking in the back of his thoughts an unresolved question that had gnawed at him for long time: Why did his shadow self remain elusive, always slipping just out of his grasp?
Below, the city was a blur of towering skyscrapers and ancient temples, a blend of futuristic energy and timeless wisdom. Streams of light from the bustling traffic carved paths through the air, while faint wisps of incense smoke drifted from shrines tucked away in the shadows. But Rilium’s focus was singular the figure ahead, a dark form cutting through the night, mirroring his every move. The Shadow Unicorn, majestic and terrifying, rode a creature much like Rilium's own, but cloaked in shadows, its wings casting an eerie, cold light.
“Faster!” Rilium muttered under his breath, leaning into the pterodactyl, its wings stretching wider as they sped through a narrow street lined with towering digital billboards. Each advertisement flickered past in a blur, reflecting off the polished surface of Rilium's vehicle. Below, people went about their lives, unaware of the battle raging above them.
He could feel the pull of his shadow self dark, elegant, and powerful calling him to embrace the darkness within, but Rilium had resisted for too long. I won’t give in, he thought, his eyes narrowing as he closed the distance between them. Not like this.
The Shadow Unicorn glanced back, its eyes glowing with an unsettling elegance. “You chase what you already know, Marvel Unicorn. The shadows are not your enemy they are part of you.” Its voice was smooth, like velvet on steel. “You cannot run from your own reflection.”
“I’m not running,” Rilium shot back, his heart pounding. “I’m bringing it to the light.”
With a sudden burst of speed, Rilium dove into a steep descent, narrowly avoiding a bridge that stretched between two skyscrapers. He pulled up just in time to arc over the next building, his movements fluid and precise. The shadow followed, matching his every move with ease, but Rilium sensed something a hesitation. The Shadow Unicorn, despite its grace, was wavering, as if it could feel Rilium's growing determination.
Rilium’s mind raced. There has to be a way to outmaneuver it, to break free from this endless pursuit. He glanced down at the winding streets below, searching for an opening, a way to change the game. That’s when he saw it a convoy of sleek, armored vehicles moving through the streets. Without hesitation, he veered downward, leaving the sky and plunging into the chaos of the streets.
The Shadow Unicorn followed, its shadowy pterodactyl screeching as they weaved between towering buildings. Rilium’s breath came fast and sharp, his heart pounding as he dodged between speeding vehicles, their headlights streaking through the night. He could feel the tension building, the pull of the shadows stronger than ever. But he wouldn’t succumb. Not now.
“Your light will only blind you!” The Shadow Unicorn’s voice echoed through the narrow streets, its pterodactyl’s claws nearly grazing the ground as it swooped behind Rilium. “Accept what you are Rilium.”
Rilium gritted his teeth. The streets became a blur as he pushed the pterodactyl faster, narrowly avoiding an oncoming hover car. He needed a new strategy. Suddenly, without warning, Rilium leaped from his vehicle and onto the roof of one of the armored cars below, his boots clanging against the metal. His pterodactyl continued forward, creating a momentary distraction as it flew into the distance. The Shadow Unicorn followed it, unaware of Rilium’s sudden change in strategy.
A small smirk crossed Rilium’s face as he caught his breath, crouching low on the armored car as it sped through the city. But the respite didn’t last long. The Shadow Unicorn, realizing the ruse, turned back, its eyes burning with dark fury.
But this time, Rilium had the advantage. As the shadow swooped in, Rilium leaped from the car, using the momentum to crash into his dark counterpart. The impact sent them both hurtling toward the ground, the streets rushing up to meet them. At the last moment, Rilium twisted in mid air, channeling the ancient magic within him. A burst of ethereal light erupted from his body, enveloping them both.
The Shadow Unicorn hissed, recoiling as the light seared through its dark form. But it didn’t flee. Instead, it hesitated, something flickering in its glowing eyes a doubt, a question. Rilium saw the opportunity and seized it.
“You don’t belong in the darkness,” Rilium said, his voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through him. “You’re not my enemy. You’re a part of me. And I’m not afraid to bring you into the light.”
For a moment, the Shadow Unicorn wavered, its elegant form softening, the edges of its dark body rippling as if it were caught between two worlds. Then, in a swift, the shadows peeled away, revealing a figure hidden within a strange, ethereal presence that radiated power but was no longer bound to the darkness.
An unexpected ally, a figure Rilium couldn’t fully comprehend, emerged from the shadow. It looked at him with eyes that mirrored his own a reflection of who he might become. “You were right,” the figure said, voice calm yet filled with weight. “The path isn’t just in the light or shadow. It’s both.”
As the figure faded into the night, Rilium was left standing amidst the chaos of the city, breathing hard, but feeling... lighter. The battle wasn’t over, but he had gained ground. He had brought a part of himself out of the shadows, and in doing so, uncovered a new piece of the puzzle.
From the corner of his eye, Rilium caught a glimpse of movement the convoy of armored vehicles wasn’t just a coincidence. There, etched into the side of one of the vehicles, was the symbol of the Shadow Syndicate. A fresh lead, a new target. But for now, he knew one thing for sure he had taken his first step toward true mastery, and the shadows no longer held sway over him.
The pursuit was far from over, but Rilium now had something the shadows didn’t expect “clarity”.
