Fighter Beasts Chapter 3
A voice echoed in his mind
Fighter Beasts, Solana Dojo City
Chapter 3º, Raido, The Abyss Shark
In the depths of Celestria's harbor, where the city's pulse met the rhythmic churn of the ocean, the Abyss Shark move with decision. His real name, unknown to many, had been lost to the waters long ago, but to the Guardians, he was Raido, the Abyss Shark. His body, a fusion of sleek armored plating and rippling muscle, shimmered beneath the moonlight, each step a silent ripple through the water. His mind was a storm of hunger, a relentless drive to seek, to hunt, and to conquer. Raido was not merely a protector; he was a predator, and the seas had taught him one lesson above all: only the strong survive.
Tonight, however, something in those waters felt wrong. There was a tension in the currents, a strange pull that echoed like a whisper through the harbor. The streets of Celestria lay behind him, but his battle was here, in the dark fathoms of the city's edge. And it was a battle he craved—not for honor or justice, but for something far more primal. Blood thirst. The hunt. It had always been his way. But something gnawed at the edges of his thoughts, an uncertainty creeping through his mind that even he could not shake.
He dove beneath the water's surface, cutting through the black depths like a blade. The city’s neon lights flickered above him, distorted through the rippling waves, and for a moment, Raido felt as if the world itself was warping around him.
Then, from the abyss below, he saw it. His reflection.
Or rather, what should have been his reflection.
A twisted, grotesque version of himself moved through the water. Its armor was black as night, jagged and corrupted, and where Raido 's eyes burned with cold purpose, the shadow's eyes glowed with a chaotic, ravenous madness. Its teeth were longer, sharper, its body writhing with an unnatural energy. This was not merely a reflection—it was a shadow, a manifestation of the darkness that had begun to creep into Celestria. It mirrored his every move, but where Raido was precise, the shadow was chaotic, its movements erratic, driven by unrelenting hunger.
The Abyss Shark circled, his mind sharpening. His instincts screamed for him to attack, to tear the creature apart limb by limb. But something stopped him. This... thing was not an enemy to simply kill. It was part of him, a reflection twisted by the dark forces Kasai had warned them of. To kill it would be to destroy a part of himself. But to leave it would be dangerous. It had to be dealt with, either by vanquishing it or by understanding its origin.
Raido propelled himself toward the shadow, teeth bared. The water around them thrashed as they clashed, razor-sharp jaws meeting with a fury that turned the harbor into a battlefield. But the shadow fought differently than any opponent Raido had ever faced. It moved with reckless abandon, driven not by strategy, but by an all-consuming need to feed, to destroy. Every strike it landed seemed to sap Raido's strength, a reminder of the darkness that lurked within him.
For the first time, doubt crept into Raido’s mind. He had always been a hunter, a predator. He had lived by a simple creed: there were hunters, and there was prey. But what was he now? What did it mean when the prey was a reflection of his own soul?
The shadow lunged at him again, and Raido barely dodged, the creature’s jagged teeth scraping against his armored skin. He felt a pang of anger, and yet, deep down, there was something else—a strange kinship. This was no ordinary opponent. It was a twisted mirror, showing him the parts of himself he had long buried beneath his thirst for blood and power.
You cannot defeat what you do not understand, a voice echoed in his mind. Whether it was his own thought or the ancient teachings of Sensei Kasai, he couldn’t tell. But it struck deep.
He felt his pulse slow. The frenzy of the fight faded from his mind, replaced by a cold, calculating clarity. He stopped seeing the shadow as merely an opponent. He watched its movements, studied its patterns. Every strike it made, every failed attempt, told him more about himself. About his weaknesses, his fears. The shadow, for all its chaotic hunger, was still him.
With each passing moment, Raido’s attacks became more deliberate, less frenzied. He wasn’t fighting just to win anymore. He was searching, probing for the truth. What was this darkness that had manifested before him? Where did it come from, and why had it chosen to take his form?
Then, in a moment of terrifying clarity, Raido understood. The shadow was born from his own blood thirst. His own relentless drive for the hunt had fed it. It was the embodiment of his unchecked hunger for power, the very thing that had driven him all his life, now twisted into something monstrous.
But this time, instead of recoiling in fear, Raido embraced it. He let the darkness wash over him, not to consume him, but to integrate it. He could not fight this part of himself. It had always been there, lurking beneath the surface, just as much a part of him as the ocean itself.
With a deep, guttural roar, Raido charged the shadow one final time, but not with the intent to destroy. Instead, he wrapped his powerful jaws around its form, not to tear it apart, but to pull it in. To absorb it. The darkness surged through him, flooding his senses with an intensity he had never felt before. But this time, he did not let it overwhelm him. He controlled it, shaped it, bent it to his will.
As the shadow dissolved into him, Raido felt a strange calm settle over his mind. The blood thirst was still there, as sharp as ever, but now it was tempered by understanding. The darkness that had once driven him was no longer something to fear. It was a part of him. And by mastering it, he had mastered himself.
Emerging from the water, Raido looked out at the city of Celestria, its lights shimmering in the distance. He had always believed that the hunt was everything. But now, he saw that the true battle was not just against his enemies—it was within.
With renewed purpose, he would continue his path with the Guardians, no longer simply a predator, but something more. Something greater.
The Abyss Shark had embraced his shadow. And in doing so, he had become whole.
